Tales from the UG Lib

Typical UVa student @ libs.

Ridiculous things I saw/heard/observed while studying at the UG libs tonight:

  1. Overweight hispanic chick yelling to rest of library, “Who needs to install Office 2007?” and then offering her bootlegged copy to people at the table behind me.
  2. “Crazy virgin” from sorority night
  3. Dude, in suit, with a pool rack around his neck.
  4. Dude, on cell phone, arguing w/ Chinese restaraunt over whether he had, in the past, paid for delivery via debit card. FWIW, at Cav’s, we didn’t let you order over the phone via credit/debit card.
  5. Cackling dude that upon seeing his friends at the table behind me yelled, “There they are!” while pointing basically right at me.
  6. Dude extending an ethernet cord over my head, girl tripping over her laptop’s power cord. UVA: PUT SOME FREAKING OUTLETS IN THE LIBRARY!!!
  7. Group of Hispanics arguing over the virtues of the cultures/accents of different Central American countries. (“All you bitches drop your S’s.” “He has a gringo accent.” “Like every other word he uses is a Peruvian word. That’s disgusting.” “Spanish people are the rudest people ever.”)
  8. That same group playing recordings of Spanish curse words on their computer from “Cool Spanish on BBC
  9. Dude shaking, kicking, and punching a vending machine until he got whatever food item he desired out.

Question: Look, I like a little bit of noise while I’m studying, but a bunch of the undergrads here are freaking LOUD while in the library. I’m not complaining about kids talking. I’m complaining about the kids that are talking over each other and acting as if they and their table are the only people in the building. What’s the deal kids? If you want to have social hour fine but some of us want to at least pretend we’re studying when we show up to the library. At Penn, people talked at Van Pelt down in Rosenparty. But it was just talking. If you started screaming/talking over eachother, the rest of the kids down there would have taken you out on a rail. Must be a stttate school thing.
